Let readers check the facts
We link to the agency, document, dataset, or reporting behind a claim where we discuss it. We check whether the source is current and whether it applies to the business or place we’re writing about.
A city’s instructions describe that city’s process. When we use wage data, we explain which jobs and places it covers, which period it measures, and whether the figures could be revised. Examples show how to work through a question; they can’t settle the details of an individual lease or payroll arrangement.
Be clear about what we know
We label made-up examples as examples. We identify company-reported figures and explain how we calculate comparisons. We don’t invent interviews, credentials, or personal experience.
In AI-search coverage, we explain what a platform’s documentation says and what a test actually found. If we don’t know why an answer changed, we say so.
How we use AI
We use AI tools to help organize research, analyze information, and prepare drafts. A tool’s answer isn’t a source. Before publication, an editor must check the facts, calculations, and links and take responsibility for the article.
Commercial relationships
Sponsorships, affiliate commissions, and other relationships that could affect an article must be disclosed alongside it. Sponsored articles must be labeled in the article and wherever they’re listed. Payment doesn’t buy an independent recommendation.
We choose links because they help readers check a fact or do something useful. Editors who publish our contributions choose their own links.
Updates and corrections
Articles carry a publication date. We keep dated source notes internally and check changing guidance again before revising a story. A substantial update or correction gets a dated explanation in the article; a spelling fix doesn’t need a new publication date.
If you spot a mistake, send us the article and the detail we should check. We’ll review the source and explain a material correction. If a rule changed after publication, we’ll describe that as an update.
